What is the difference between a crutch and a walking stick?

People often see people walking with crutchs, and sometimes wonder: Why do young people also need to use crutchs? In fact, it is not a crutch, but a sports crutch. The main difference between a crutch and a walking stick lies in the function, material and method of use.

crutch

A crutch is mainly used for walking to prevent falls. A sports crutch is used for special sports or mass fitness, such as mountaineering or brisk walking. Sports crutchs are divided into trekking poles and Nordic walking poles. Trekking poles are suitable for mountaineering activities and brisk walking on flat roads that return on the same day. Using a trekking pole can help save physical energy, avoid cardiopulmonary overload, and reduce the burden on the knee joint.

In terms of material, a crutch needs to be stable and not elastic, and is usually made of wood or aluminum alloy. A trekking pole needs to withstand greater pressure, and is mostly made of materials such as titanium alloy or aluminum alloy. A Nordic walking crutch must withstand pressure and be elastic to adapt to long-term walking and climbing. Therefore, it is usually made of a mixture of carbon fiber and fiberglass fiber.

crutch

In terms of usage, the crutch is supported downward by the palm. The trekking pole is supported by holding the handle, which has an adjustable strap to provide auxiliary support. The handle of the Nordic walking pole is designed with a three-dimensional handle guard, which makes it easy for people with weak wrist strength to use and protect the wrist joint. The lower end of the sports crutch is equipped with a metal head, which is convenient for walking on steep slopes and icy and snowy roads without slipping. The Nordic walking crutch is also equipped with a shockproof head, which makes it more comfortable when walking on stone steps and hard roads.

In general, crutches and walking sticks have their own characteristics in function, material and usage methods, and are suitable for different needs. Correctly selecting and using the right tools can better protect the body and improve walking efficiency.
